The production
The production of furniture for sailing boats is generally a great technological challenge. A very limited space on the vessel demands a detailed designs and the production tolerates only small deviances. Numerous curves enable the furniture to fit the boat hull but at the same time demand a great precision in the production, so most of the production happens on CNC machines that are directly connected to the software for CAD/CAM designs.
We use TopSolid and TopWood, the most advanced software for 3D designs, and connect them automatically to CNC machines via TopCam. By doing this we produce flawless furniture with the demanded accuracy.
Finding the optimal compromise between the demanded low weight of the materials, the construction firmness of the furniture and the stability of the larger surfaces is the most difficult part of the job, but it is also a field of constant technological innovation. At the Excel company we have the know-how of specific materials, lacquers and adhesives and the different techniques of using them in order to assure that the furniture remains waterproof.
Despite all the modern technology, the final quality of the products depends on the skilled hands of the carpenter. Beginning with the choice of the appropriate veneer and the perfect massive wood, years of experience is obvious in joining the cabinets of many components that must fit perfectly. The final lacquer finish and quality control are also most important and demand precision and eye for details.
